Emblaze Academy is a standalone middle school and only has 90 seats available for the 5th grade. Each year, Emblaze Academy will have open enrollment for incoming 5th graders and will welcome a new cohort of 90 students as well as admit students for any available school seats in other grades.

Emblaze Academy is s an equal opportunity, free, public, charter school, open to all children on a space-available basis. “A charter school shall not discriminate against or limit the admission of any student on any unlawful basis, including on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, disability, intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, race, creed, national origin, religion or ancestry. A school may not require any action by a student or family (such as an admissions test, interview, essay, attendance at an information session, etc.) in order for an applicant to either receive or submit an application for admission to that school.”

Emblaze Academy is an open enrollment school and does not require any action beyond the submission of an application on the part of potential students or their families.

Emblaze Academy utilizes the New York Charter School Uniform Application, and this paper and/or online application is widely available in English and Spanish. The cutoff for enrollment applications for our founding 5th grade class will be at midnight EST on April 11, 2022.

Our admission process will adhere to all laws related to the charter school admissions, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and §2854 (2) of New York Education Law. A charter school must use a lottery if more students apply for admission to the charter school than can be admitted. A lottery is a random selection process by which applicants are admitted to the charter school. At least one-week notice is given prior to each enrollment lottery. A family does not need to be present at the lottery to gain enrollment.

A random, public lottery will be held on April 12, 2021 to determine our admissions for Emblaze Academy. Emblaze Academy will use technology such as a random number generator, to select students during the lottery.

Any family who submits an application after midnight EST on April 11, 2021, will be added in order to the end of the waitlist. Families not offered a seat from the random lottery selection would also be contacted and notified of their place on the waitlist.

Any family that is offered a seat will have a deadline of 48 hours from the phone call notification to accept the seat at Emblaze Academy or the seat will be relinquished to the next student on the waitlist. If students do not accept their spots by the registration deadline, those spaces will be given to students on the waiting list.

Applicants must be residents of New York State and be able to provide proof of residency. Families in temporary housing are exempt from proof of residency requirement in accordance with The McKinney-Vento Act. Children are required to have been examined within the past year by a licensed physician and have a Child & Adolescent Health Examination Form (physical) with food allergies documentation, immunization records, a TB test, and current hearing and vision screenings.
